Our approach to ESG

Doing right by our people and doing good as a business is embedded into our agency. We want MI Media to be a place our employees are proud to work whilst attracting exciting future talent and ambitious, interesting and ethical clients. We have a dedicated team that is continually striving to enhance our corporate and social responsibility standards. Our ESG strategy is focused on four key pillars: Workplace, Environment, Business and Community & Social.

In June 2024, we published our first ESG insights report. The report captures and explores key topics and themes picked up in our recent interviews and conversations with experts across the media spectrum. The core themes identified in the report include Education, Cutting Carbon, Performance & Effectiveness and Collaboration, in addition to thinking about what’s next on the ESG agenda. Workplace

We are dedicated to fostering a thriving workplace environment where our staff feel supported and comfortable regardless of their age, gender, sex, disability, race, religion, ethnicity or other. This is underlined by our commitment to adaptability, aligning with progressive HR policies that champion diversity and inclusion. To enhance the engagement and collaboration of employees, we’ve established a dedicated People Team Committee, and our belief in collective success is reflected in the profit share scheme that involves everyone at MI Media. We enable flexible working and allow our people to choose working patterns that best suits them. We care about the wellbeing of our people and run different activities including yoga, football, cycling, rambling and tennis to enhance a positive company culture.

Personal development is a key component to the growth of our agency. It keeps our team highly engaged and trained in the most up-to date technologies and media practices in a constantly evolving industry. As IPA members, we are dedicated to achieving at least 24 hours of professional development per person per year, whether this be training directly from the IPA, media owners or through internal leadership sessions.

Environment

Our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability has taken root since our journey formally began a few years ago with the establishment of our “green team,” a concept that has since evolved into a driving force for positive change. Collaborating with the Mayor’s Business Climate Challenge, an energy efficiency initiative, we’ve diligently worked to reduce our own energy consumption within our offices in London and as a business. We’ve implemented several internal measures to optimise heating and cooling systems and our office operates on a green energy supply, supported by a smart meter, allowing us to make informed decisions regarding our energy use.

We’ve enhanced energy data reporting through Ecotricity, prioritised waste recycling for items like food and batteries and extended recommendations for reducing carbon emissions to include work-from-home scenarios. As members of the IPA climate charter, we are positioned to actively contribute to shaping its upcoming carbon calculator. With the target of achieving net-zero by 2030, we are implementing ways to report on our energy use, waste management and overall carbon footprint to demonstrate our pledge to environmental responsibility.

We continue to celebrate the growth in our journey as we are now also Impact Certified by FuturePlus. Future Plus enables us to access insightful measurement; from highlighting the aspects where we are performing well to those areas that we can strive to do more. Being a better, sustainable business is an ever-evolving process and by working with Future Plus we’re committed to continuously bettering our business for our world, our clients and our people.

Business

Our client-centric ESG strategy has a twofold approach that underpins our commitment to ethical business practices, a cornerstone of our identity. We have a track record of working with charity clients and purpose-driven organisations. At the same time, we encourage all our clients to foster environmentally responsible and sustainable enterprises.

Our mission involves close collaboration with clients, where we offer expert guidance and analysis of the carbon footprint associated with their media plans. We work closely with media partners to improve sustainability on plans. By doing this, we can unearth opportunities for carbon offsetting and reduction. By spearheading these initiatives, we not only shape the industry landscape but also drive meaningful change.

Community and social

Community and social engagement are important to us. Embracing a localised approach, we support community initiatives that resonate with our values. Partnering with Better Bankside, we participated in a Thames beach clean, contributing to the clean-up of our local shared environment. We’re dedicated to nurturing the next generation of talent and have collaborated with NextGen and Southwark College, located near our office, to provide comprehensive work experience opportunities to business students.

We facilitated a seven-day training program where students engaged in hands-on projects and presentations, gaining insights into various sides of the industry. Additionally, we are part of the IPA’s Advertising Unlocked initiative and have connected with a school in Slough, ready to guide students through a practical brief that offers a glimpse into the varied roles within the advertising industry.

Recently in early 2024, we also partnered with the Claude Littner Business School, University West London to help support and deliver a digital marketing module to business students.
